Privacy Policy for LiteRead

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how LiteRead (“the App”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) handles information when you use the App. LiteRead is intended to be a local-first, read-only viewer for supported file types such as TXT, PDF, EPUB, and Markdown.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

LiteRead does not require you to create an account and does not collect the contents of your documents.

We do not intentionally collect, upload, sell, or share:

• the text or contents of files you open;
• your documents, books, PDFs, Markdown files, or other local files;
• your name, email address, phone number, contacts, or precise location;
• photos, videos, audio recordings, or camera/microphone data;
• cloud account credentials or login information.

3. Local Data Stored on Your Device

To provide basic reader functionality, LiteRead may store limited app data locally on your device. This data is used only to make the App work more conveniently and is not uploaded by LiteRead to our server.

Local data may include:

• recently opened file references, such as file URI, file name, file type, and last opened time;
• last reading position, such as PDF page, EPUB chapter, or approximate text position;
• text reader preferences, such as font size, font family, line spacing, margin, and color theme preset;
• basic app settings.

Because Android file access is controlled by the system file picker, LiteRead may keep permission to reopen files you selected through the Android Storage Access Framework. This permission is used only so that recently opened files can be reopened from within the App.

4. File Access

LiteRead opens files selected by you through the Android file picker or compatible system file-opening flow. The App does not scan all files on your device by default and does not request broad all-files access.

The App is read-only. It is not designed to edit, modify, upload, or delete the contents of your documents.

5. Advertising

LiteRead may display a bottom banner advertisement using Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect and process certain information from your device for purposes such as ad delivery, fraud prevention, analytics, and measuring ad performance. This may include identifiers such as the advertising ID and related technical information, depending on your device settings, consent choices, region, and Google’s policies.

LiteRead does not use full-screen ads, pop-up ads, app-open ads, rewarded ads, or interstitial ads as part of its intended product design.

6. Consent and Regional Requirements

Where required by law, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the App may request consent for advertising-related data processing. Your ad experience may depend on your region, device settings, Google settings, and any consent choices shown in the App.

7. Internet Access

LiteRead does not need internet access to open and read your local files. Internet access may be used for advertising services, loading ad-related resources, or opening external policy links if you choose to view them.

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. LiteRead does not share the contents of your documents with us or with third parties.

Third-party advertising services, such as Google AdMob, may process certain data as described in their own policies and the advertising section above.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

Local app data remains on your device unless you clear it, remove recent file entries in the App, or uninstall the App. You can delete locally stored app data by using Android system settings to clear the App’s storage or by uninstalling LiteRead.

10. Children’s Privacy

LiteRead is a general-purpose local document viewer and is not specifically directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us.

11. Security

LiteRead is designed to keep document reading local on your device. However, no app, device, or data transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Please avoid opening files from sources you do not trust.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
